About Rhodia & Solvay
Rhodia was a French specialty chemicals company founded in 1998 after being spun off from Rhône-Poulenc. It became a global leader in specialty chemicals for fragrances, personal care, home care, and industrial applications.
In 2011, the Belgian chemical company Solvay acquired Rhodia in a deal valued at approximately €3.4 billion. The acquisition strengthened Solvay’s position in high-value specialty chemicals, particularly in consumer chemicals, aroma ingredients, advanced materials, and sustainable technologies. Rhodia’s fragrance and aroma chemical business continued under the Solvay name, leveraging Rhodia’s technical expertise and Solvay’s global manufacturing and distribution network.
Today, many well-known aroma chemicals originally associated with Rhodia are recognized under the Solvay portfolio.
